LM Studio
LM Studio is the “App Store experience” of local LLMs: search, download, and chat with a model from a beautiful desktop UI, no terminal required.
Strengths: the model browser makes discovering GGUF quants easy, the chat UI is pleasant, and the built-in server behaves like Ollama’s API. Metal support makes it the best choice on Apple Silicon.
Limitations: a bit of overhead versus raw llama.cpp, and advanced power users will outgrow it.
Best for: non-developers, Mac users, and anyone who wants a GUI. Pairs well with our Runner Picker.
